GINI began not in a kitchen, but in a backyard, where the Dayawansa brothers turned their love for food, family, and togetherness into something unforgettable. What started as simple moments around a shared table, inspired by their grandmother’s soulful recipes, has grown into one of Colombo’s most loved dining experiences. As a proudly Sri Lankan family-owned restaurant, every dish we create carries the heart of home, rooted in tradition, elevated with bold technique, and infused with global flavour.
More than just a restaurant, GINI is a living expression of heritage, hospitality, and heart. It’s where fire meets memory, and where each guest becomes part of our story. Whether you come for the food, the feeling, or the familiar warmth, it’s not just a meal you’ll remember. It’s the way it made you feel.
At the heart of GINI is a shared love for good food, family traditions, and the joy of bringing people together. Born from casual gatherings in our own backyard, what began as humble shared meals has grown into a culinary destination-now proudly standing among Colombo’s finest.
As brothers, our journey has always been guided by flavour and feeling. Influenced by our grandmother’s soulful cooking and inspired by flavours from around the world, we’ve created a menu that respects heritage while embracing bold creativity. Our team has since grown beyond the three of us and now includes over 20 talented staff members, led by our executive chef, Surith Adhihetty.
GINI is more than a restaurant, it’s a tribute to where we come from and a warm invitation to be part of it. We can’t wait to welcome you.
Oysters are a year-round staple on GINI’s dinner specials in Colombo- made possible by Pradeep and his wife. Based in the suburban town of Moratuwa, this duo carefully forage, purge, and clean each oyster, to ensure the freshest quality.
A fave among our patrons, these plump oysters are enjoyed in delectable ways: herb-infused with coconut cream or grilled with curry leaf compound butter.
A moment for the bestsellers—our fresh, wild-caught lagoon prawns. A true staple at GINI Outdoor Kitchen, these premium prawns come straight from fishermen like Selvarash in Mullaitivu.
From prawn dogs to grilled prawns, we serve up an irresistible selection—always fresh, always flavourful.
Every morning at 3 AM, our trusted supplier, Vimukthi, handpicks the freshest catch for GINI at Negombo Fish Market—the largest in the Western Province.
Continuing his mother’s legacy as one of Negombo’s iconic female seafood sellers, he upholds sustainable fishing practices to bring us superior, flame-kissed seafood at its finest.
In a quiet coastal town near Kirinda, a Malay fishing community carries on generations-old traditions, diving deep among reefs to uncover treasures—sweet, succulent lobsters. For years, Fariz and his uncles have supplied us with the freshest catch, a relationship we cherish to this day.
To honour the ocean’s rhythm, we pause serving lobster dishes during spawning season, ensuring each bite remains as sustainable as it is indulgent.
